Good leadership is a vital skill for all doctors. The Keogh Report, the Francis Report, and the recent GMC publication "Leadership and management for all doctors" (2013) all emphasise the important role of doctors as leaders. Training needs to be based around the NHS Leadership Framework, which was developed from the Medical Leadership Competencies Framework (MLCF) which sets out what a doctor should know to lead clinical teams effectively.

Practical Leadership Skills for Registrars is an exciting one day training course, full of short, interactive sessions that cover far more than just the essential knowledge of leadership. You will explore what leadership really means, and expand your understanding of, and develop your insight into, what works and why.

Then our carefully designed practical exercises will help you to put your knowledge into practice. You will develop the core skills you need to be a more effective clinical leader. You will also discover what you can do to be a better leader, and build your expertise and confidence in your ability to lead.

As well as covering the NHS Leadership Framework, the course will also introduce you to Action Centred Leadership, an internationally acclaimed perspective on effective leadership. You will learn what to focus on, how to respond effectively to challenges and problems, and how to influence others to work better together.

The course is highly interactive, very practical, and is limited to a maximum of 12 places so that you will develop your skills in small groups. As well as learning exactly what to do to get the best out of people, you will also practice how to lead effectively, and most importantly, understand when, how and why leadership works.

You’ll get ideas you can use personally and apply immediately to improve the effectiveness of the teams in which you work to deliver better clinical care. You will also have Reflective Templates to use during and after the course, receive written Feedback on your leadership, develop an Action Plan to apply your learning, and a Certificate for your CPD records.

The Leadership Business has been successfully running leadership and management courses for doctors throughout the NHS for over 13 years. Courses are described by attendees as excellent and the feedback is always positive. For example:

"Verbal, glowing reports coming in from delegates." Postgraduate Centre Manager.

This course will give you all of the essential knowledge, skills, insight and understanding you need to be an effective leader in the modern NHS. Here is what some of your colleagues have said about this course:
