Course Content will cover:
- Sharing your Key Result Areas
- Definition of assertiveness and other behaviours
- Communication relating to behaviours
- Consequences of behaving in certain ways
- Reasons for behaving in certain ways
- Rights and responsibilities
- Dealing with non-assertive people
- Assertive self management
- Giving bad news assertively and with empathy
- Dealing with shocked patients
- Saying ‘no’ assertively
- Practical exercise using ‘real life’ situations
- Personal action plan
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course you will be able to:
- Understand what assertiveness is compared to other interactive behaviours
- Behave in an assertive manner
- Communicate assertively
- Understand why people behave in certain ways
- Outline your rights and responsibilities in your role
- Be assertive and empathetic when you give bad news
- Be empathetic when the patient is in shock
- Be assertive to say ‘no’ when a patient asks an unrealistic request
- Leave with an Action Plan for your professional development in this area of skil
